Our commitment

Yoake Legal handles personal data in a manner consistent with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, guidance issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, and, where it applies to a matter, the EU General Data Protection Regulation.

This notice sits alongside our Privacy Policy and sets out the principles we apply and how to raise a data protection concern with us.

The principles we apply

• Lawfulness and fairness. We process personal data only where we have a lawful basis, and in ways a person would reasonably expect.
• Purpose limitation. We use data for the purpose it was provided for, and not for unrelated purposes without a proper basis.
• Data minimisation. We collect what is necessary and no more. Where a form field is not needed, we remove it.
• Accuracy. We correct data we are told is wrong.
• Storage limitation. We keep data only for as long as there is a reason to.
• Integrity and confidentiality. We apply access controls and security measures proportionate to the data we hold.
• Accountability. We keep records of how we handle personal data and review them.

Data subject requests

If you would like to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, or to object to processing or withdraw consent, contact Yoakelegal@gmail.com with “Data request” in the subject line.

We may ask you to verify your identity so that we do not disclose information to the wrong person. We will respond within the period required by applicable law and will tell you if an exemption prevents us from fully complying with a request for example where legal professional privilege or a record-keeping obligation applies.

Breach handling

We maintain a process for identifying, containing and assessing personal data breaches, and for notifying the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and affected individuals where the applicable thresholds are met.

Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first so that we have an opportunity to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
